Current Membership

 Mr Fitzmauriceis is a member of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the international Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, the Irish Thoracic Society, the British Thoracic Oncology Group, and the Irish Lung Cancer Alliance.

He is on the writing committee for the FRCS (CTh) examination and also sits on a number of working groups relevant to thoracic surgical oncology.

Professional Profile

Mr Fitzmaurice is a graduate of University College Dublin and Queen’s University Belfast. Following appointment to the higher specialist training program at The Royal College of Surgeons in ireland, he trained across the various Irish cardiothoracic surgical units successfully completing his FRCSI (Cardiothoracic Surgery) in 2017. He completed a minimally invasive Thoracic Surgical Fellowship; at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, the largest single site specialist heart and chest hospital in the UK, and was awarded the inaugural Jack A Roth fellowship in Thoracic Surgical Oncology from the American Association for the Thoracic Surgery which he undertook at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He has been a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at St James’s Hospital since 2019 and is part of a dedicated team of Surgeons who perform for that 55% of all curative-intent surgery for lung cancer in Ireland
