Professional Profile:

Prof Donal Sexton is a Consultant Nephrologist and Kidney Transplant physician at St James’s Hospital and Clinical Associate Professor with Trinity College Dublin. He graduated from NUI Galway in 2006 in first place, with a first class honours degree and 5 National Henry Hutchinson Steward NUI scholarships in addition to an intercalated BSc in Pharmacology. He then undertook training at the Mater Hospital Dublin and the Mayo Clinic USA before subsequently completing a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology and Fellowship at the NIH funded United States Renal Data System (USRDS), Minnesota, USA. He then completed a Kidney Transplantation Fellowship and subsequently worked as Consultant Nephrologist and Kidney Transplant Physician at Beaumont Hospital Dublin before joining St James’s Hospital in 2019. He attained a number of awards for his kidney disease research from the American Society of Nephrology, the British Transplant Society, the European Society for Organ Transplantation and the Irish Nephrology Society. He contributes to national Chronic Kidney Disease guideline for Ireland.
